Earlier in the week former broodmares Choral Singer and Flower Appeal left the yard for the final time and headed for retirement in Bedfordshire. The pair of nineteen-year-olds have been very close friends for many years and recently came down from Forbes Arms Stud, Aberdeen, to be rehomed. It seemed a remote hope, but thanks to the kindness of a lovely lady called Elisabeth we were able to find them a home together for life. |

Flower Appeal is a daughter of our 1999 Queen Mother's Cup winner Flower O'Cannie, who gave amateur rider Serena Brotherton her first race win 25 years ago. Choral Singer's sire is Godolphin's 1999 Breeders Cup Turf hero Daylami, a brilliant racehorse who won six Group and Grade 1 races. Choral Singer was unraced, but has bred two winners including Stimulating Song who proved himself to be her best performer when scoring at Cheltenham in November 2020. We hope she enjoys the gift of a long life like her sire Daylami, who died last year at the grand age of 29. |

Flower and Choral will enjoy their retirements with Elisabeth on a big pick your own farm in Bedfordshire. They've joined a group of mares and are free to roam many acres of beautiful pasture. As the crow flies they're now about 400 miles south of where they were living only a month ago up in Aberdeenshire. Hopefully it'll be a little warmer too! "They arrived safe and sound and are currently belting round the field", said Elisabeth. "They definitely don't act their age!" "They are stuck like glue, I'm so pleased that they came together. They'll just have a nice time here on the farm with my other mares. In the summer they will get treats in the shape of left over fruit and veg from the farm and they'll eat well!" |
