Eligible returned to action this afternoon after a summer break in fine form by taking the Always Gamble Responsibly At BetMGM Handicap.
The nine-year-old defied top weight to win the race off a BHA mark of 69. Given a patient ride by Joanna Mason he came with a strong run on the outside and hit the front in the final furlong to beat I'm Workin On It by a length. Eligible was returned at a healthy price of 10/1 and you can watch the race here.
"He was a little monkey in the stalls today," said Joanna Mason after the race. "But he's done it nicely and come back in fine shape after his summer break."
Eligible has been a fine servant since joining us from Clive Cox in 2019 and he is now a five-time course winner at Southwell.
