The name of a former winner has been revived after our two-year-old Advertise gelding was named Skewsby.

Owner Mark Hickling has named his juvenile after the small village located in the Ryedale district of North Yorkshire, evoking memories of a stable favourite from the 1970s who also carried the name 'Skewsby'.

The original Skewsby won ten races between 1979 and 1984, with successes on the flat and over hurdles and fences. Retired from rules in 1986 he went on to run in point-to-points.

If the new 'Skewsby' is even half as good as his predecessor we'll all be happy.
