The first foal of the 2026 season has arrived as broodmare Mid Winster delivered a bay colt by Rajasinghe at Norton Grove Stud this morning. The healthy colt and his dam are doing well and will remain at Norton Grove for a few days before heading to New House Farm.
"He's full of life and very friendly," said Jessica Rummel of Norton Grove Stud.
There's plenty of speed in the pedigree. The colt's sire Rajasinghe was the winner of the Group 2 Coventry Stakes in 2017 whilst dam Mid Winster was a five time winner over five and six furlongs and is a daughter of sprinter Burwaaz.
Nine more foals are due to be born to our mares over the next few months. Your Spirit is the next scheduled to foal at the end of the February and she is also carrying a foal by Rajasinghe.
We hope that this Friday 13th arrival brings some good luck and the interesting birth date may inspire an appropriate racing name in time. In the meantime the staff have named the foal 'Loki'.
In Norse mythology, Loki, the god of mischief, was the 13th guest at a dinner party, and his presence led to chaos and tragedy. This story has been passed down through generations, reinforcing the idea that 13 is an unlucky number.
