Roman Crystal become's stable's 100th winner at Ayr

Roman Crystal lost her maiden tag this evening at Ayr as she took the A McKie Builders EBF Restricted Maiden Stakes under Billy Garritty.

The daughter of Shaman was never headed and despite drifting right at the distance she kept on well inside final furlong to beat the favourite Beechwood Glory by a length and three quarters. She was winning on her fifth racecourse appearance, and showed plenty of improvement from her last start when third in a novice race at Thirsk in July.

Roman Crystal is the first winner for Lee Westwood's 2026/7 Partnership who also have juveniles Court Legend and Pivotal Star in training.

On a historical note, the victory brought up a century of winners for Mick Easterby at Ayr, going back 62 years to 1964 when Wold Lass won the 'Doon apprentice Selling Handicap' under jockey Alan Robson.
