A stalwart of the handicapping circuit and a firm favorite among racing enthusiasts, Ring of Gold was retired from racing today after running at Ayr.
A staff favourite, Ring Of Gold was ridden at home by Sarah Finch and known to us as 'Ringo'.
Originally purchased as a prospective jumper, Ringo didn't stay the two mile trip over obstacles and was instead switched to the flat.
Ringo won five races on the all weather, with victories at Wolverhampton and Kempton Park in 2021, and then back at Kempton the following year.
However, after a three year absence from the winners' enclosure, when retirement was being considered, Ringo won back to back races at Newcastle in 2025. His resurgence in form earned him another season on the track, but it became evident that his enthusiasm was on the wane.
Ringo's form on turf was hit-or-miss later in his career, and he remained winless after 26 races on the grass, and with his handicap mark slipping and opportunities to win becoming fewer we took the decision to find him something else to do.
Ringo earned over £50,000 in prizemoney and will be made available for rehoming through our rehome scheme.
